She was born to an Irish-Scottish father, David, and Filipina mother, Glory in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She completed her secondary education from Don Mills Collegiate Institute and while studying there, she enrolled in a vocational modeling program. She attended rhythmic gymnastics classes at a very young age, then studied American Sign Language (the predominant sign language of deaf communities of USA and Canada) as a teenager.
In 1993, Lexa had her first television appearance as a Second Girl in the TV series The Hidden Room. Her first science fiction TV movie is TekWar: TekLords (1994). While auditioning for film and television roles, she worked on theatre productions of Arsenic and Old Lace and Romeo and Juliet.
