Lila Downs is a well know Mexican pop singer. she was born on August 9, 1968 in Sierra Grande, Mexico. The daughter of an American filmmaker and painter and a Mixtec Indian singer, at the age of eight, Lila began her musical career performing mariachi songs.
Lila Downs Biography
At fourteen, she studied vocalization in Los Angeles, and completed her training at the Academy of Fine Arts in the City of Oaxaca. Shortly after, she moved to Minnesota, where she attended the university studying Anthropology.
Along with Los Cadetes de Yodoyuxi (a percussion group) and La Trova Serrana, she achieved popularity among the Latin public in the United States, singing songs about the Zapotec community and its cultural values.
Together with the saxophonist Paul Cohen, he made numerous presentations in Oaxaca and Philadelphia, obtaining great repercussion in the critics, reason for which he undertakes an extensive tour of Mexico, South America, the United States and Europe.
Renowned for rescuing the sounds of her land, Lila Down’s career is highlighted by albums such as Lila Downs Ofrenda (1994), Sandunga (1999), Tree of Life (2000) Border (2001) and Una Sangre (2004).
