He was discovered at just 13 years old by birdman in 1996 and later joined the Cash Money Records label which saw him become the youngest member of the record label. For 22 years, Lil Wayne was the flagship artist of the Cash Money Records label before he terminated his contract in 2018. His solo album Tha Block Is Hot which debuted him to the rap music scene in 1999 was certified as platinum by the RIAA. He attended Lafayette Elementary before enrolling with the Eleanor McMain Secondary for two years. He furthered his education at the Marion Abramson Senior High school.
